Rehab Clinics
Most people who are addicted to drugs don’t realize that they are, or at least they don’t want to admit that they are. This kind of denial can be very dangerous for the individual, and so it is important that they have a loving and caring family member or friend who will help them to realize that they have a problem and need to seek help in a rehab clinic. There are many stages or levels that a person goes through before the final stage of addiction. It is important that people close to that individual can recognize these stages and help to stop the addiction before it is too late and too powerful.
Nearly every person has used drugs once in their lives, for fun and experimentation purposes or even through peer pressure. There are four stages that can be recognized on the path to addiction, and if you notice these stages in someone you care about, you may want to get them to go to a rehab clinic. The first stage is called “Use”. As mentioned, everybody has experimented with drugs at some point in their lives, whether it is alcohol or something more serious. If you take drugs just once without any negative effects, then that can be termed as ‘use’. Drinking beer at a party, or wine at a classy restaurant all falls under the ‘use’ category.
The second stage is ‘Misuse’. This is the use of drugs that results in a negative effect. If we look at the example of alcohol, drinking too much so that your stomach has to get pumped is a clear misuse of the drug alcohol. Also, misuse does not necessarily indicate that you have a problem or need to go to a rehab clinic. If you drink too much just once, and get arrested for driving whilst under the influence of alcohol, then you have clearly misused alcohol even though you don’t generally have a problem. This misuse is frequent amongst teenagers, but nearly everyone experiences some form of misuse in their lives.
The third stage is ‘Abuse’. This refers to the continuing use of drugs despite the negative affects or influences. Consider the person who drank so much that she had to get her stomach pumped. This clear misuse of alcohol should be enough to stop her from over drinking in the future, but, if she does it again, then that person is clearly abusing alcohol. The same can be applied to other drugs too. This is the last stage before addiction, and it is important to try and catch the problem before it elevates. A drug rehab clinic may be the only option if it gets this far.
The fourth and last stage is ‘Addiction’. This is also sometimes termed ‘dependency’, and it relates to the continued use of drugs despite the obvious negative effects that can impact one’s life in terrible and adverse ways. It is a compulsive use of drugs that often cannot be stopped by the person who is addicted. This would be like the girl who gets her stomach pumped – if she drinks that much every weekend then she is clearly addicted and needs to seek help from a rehab clinic with a good rehab program.
